5th Meeting of the Arab Foundations Forum and The Arab Philanthropy Conference, January 18-21, 2008

UEF recently attended the Fifth Meeting of the Arab Foundations Forum (AFF), of which UEF is a founding member since 2006, which focused on creating an active learning community in the field of social justice philanthropy. Participants agreed to consolidate linkages between the AFF and other International and Arab foundation networks. Immediately following this meeting, UEF attended a forum entitled From Charity to Change: Trends in Arab Philanthropy, hosted by the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Foundation and the Gerhard Center for Philanthropy and Civic Engagement. In a special session on strategic directions in education, the learning for well-being concept and approach was introduced and adopted as a desired investment in education. The Welfare and the Well-being of the Palestinian Children Scientific Conference, 21 – 22 November, 2007

A two day international scientific conference entitled “The Welfare and the Well-being of the Palestinian Children” was held at Al-Quds University-Abu Deis, Jerusalem, on the 21 and 22 of November, 2007. The conference was organized in collaboration with a number of national and international organizations. Universal Education Foundation (UEF) partners included the Norwegian Social Research (NOVA) and the Palestinian Forum for the Protection of Children from Abuse and Neglect, a consortium of forty related organizations. The conference was sponsored by the Norwegian Program for Development, Research and Education (NUFU) and Child Watch International (CWI). UEF was involved in many aspects of the conference. Ms. Amal Daoud represented UEF logistical and scientific committees, and UEF organized one of the sessions. Dr. Marwan Awartani was a panelist on the final session and Mr. Salah Soubani participated in the documentation committee. Annual General Meeting and Conference of the European Foundations, 31 May – 3 June, 2007

The 2007 Annual General Meeting and Conference of the European Foundations Centre was held in Madrid from the 31st May to 3rd June. In cooperation with Philanthropy Directions International, the Universal Education Foundation organised a networking dinner for foundations working on children’s issues and well-being and a pre-conference meeting: “Building a platform for supporting children's well-being” which was held on Thursday 31st May. Stopping Violence in Schools. What Works? 27 – 29 June, 2007

Upon a special invitation from UNESCO’s Division for the Promotion of Basic Education to the Universal Education Foundation (UEF), two members participated at the Expert Meeting entitled “Stopping Violence in Schools. What Works?” which was held from 27-29 June 2007 in UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. Read the summary report [pdf].
